Masquerade

made a mask
of paint and strokes
and put it on
to fool the folks
to separate
the I and Me
and be the one
I want to be

wore a mask
and danced with others
who too wore masks
of equine brothers
I smiled at them
and took their hands
concealed my face
from scowl and glance

I won them with
this mask of mine
and all is good
and all is fine
the masquerade
continues still
though I could
still leave at will

but which is which
the mask or face?
Which is real
and which is fake?
hard to tell
between them now
it will sort itself out
somehow

for now, I dance
with mask concealing
identity
never revealing
and playing the game
I've for weeks played
and continue
the masquerade
